What Does An Email Look Like?

Quite frankly, an email looks like a memo.  It has an author, date, recipient(s), cc’s and a subject and some text for the body.  An email is an electronic memo. IMHO you could call it an Ememo, but there is already a recognized term, email.

How is an email formatted?  Much like different people have preferred memo formats, the email client determines the email format.  Outlook is the most popular email client.  Because of that, there is an expectation that all emails will look like they do when viewed or printed from Outlook.  But, just because it is from Outlook, doesn’t mean it will necessarily look the same.  If you really want to get down and dirty with the settings, you can change the appearance of the email in Outlook.  Most people don’t get that particular and take the default settings.

There are other email clients, from other PC programs to smart phone apps to web apps.  Each program or app will have its own way of formatting the information.

In reality, as long as all the information is there, it is an email.
